Spending exactly $20 keeps the out-of-pocket amount closest to the eventual bonus. Taxes, shipping, or anything above the required e.l.f. purchase remain your responsibility. Returns and canceled orders can also invalidate tracked cash back.

You are buying first and waiting for the bonus afterward. A pending transaction is not the same as payable cash, so keep the order confirmation until the reward clears.
